A two-truck accident in Oklahoma has ended in tragedy for a Bartlesville man.

On May 31, Brandon J. Keever was driving down Highway 60 northwest of Nowata. Around 5:30 a.m., Keever’s 1995 Nissan pickup truck crossed the eastbound lanes into the center of the highway, veering toward an oncoming 2010 International semi truck.

Ramona resident Larry Dale Owens, the driver of the 18-wheeler, futilely tried to avoid the pickup in his path. 30-year-old Keever was pinned under the semi in the resulting head-on collision and died of “massive injuries” before emergency crews could take him to a hospital.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Owens received medical treatment for non-critical injuries at Jane Phillips Medical Center.

Two miles of US 60 were shut down for several hours after the crash, with lanes reopening shortly before 11 a.m.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
