Two Oklahoma teenagers escaped injury after being hit by a drunk driver on a motorcycle.
On April 9, 18-year-old Carey M. Bennett, of Ponca City, was traveling westbound on Warren Avenue in Payne County with a friend, 19-year-old Kayla Holzer of Stillwater. The 1996 Ford Ranger pickup truck was stopped at a red light, about to make a left turn when they were rear-ended by a motorcycle.
The motorcycle’s rider, Michael Ray Furrh, 53, was not wearing a helmet at the time of impact. According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Furrh was thrown 71 feet from his 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was admitted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, and was reported stable on arrival. Police are awaiting updates on his condition.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report suggests that Furrh was intoxicated while operating his motorcycle, and that was undoubtedly the cause of the accident.
Bennett and Holzer were both wearing seatbelts and were not injured.
